And do you think that we'll be going to war soon? And can we bring the UK into this hypothetical war to back us up (even if they are nowhere close to matching our military might), as they are also our fellow nuclear power and closes ally.

Oh, also, in case this comes up, we don't really have a need to go to the UN for their authorization. We should be prepared to act unilaterally. Remember, French blocked the USA in the UN security council when we were trying to get their permission to invade Iraq (not that it matters as the UN is a dummy institution anyway). So I'd like to see what happens when they try to block the USA invading them lololololol

SR13: To answer your statement, does this hold true even if nuclear options are brought out onto the table?

Scott, it was the Japs who bombed pearl harbor, not the chinese. I won't even comment on the rest of your idiotic argument.

America has always started wars with pretty much the rest of the world, if you don't agree with them, they bomb you.

And France is kind of miffed off that in a recent survey, the US turned out to be the world's most hated nation, a title which the French have been proud to hold for quite a while.

America is just trying to rule the world like the British Empire did several hundred years ago, with some exceptions:

1. People liked the British Empire.
2. It gave the world economy, rather than kill the citizens, and bomb them to hell.
3. The formation of the British Empire was neat, Bush couldn't order a bum's up in a brewery.

And the UN is a good organisation, just the US have a flase sense of superiority, and can't see that they're a 3rd world nation with a debt of $9 trillion.
Americans hate the UN because the US wants to take over the world, and the UN won't let them, ironic considering the only reason the US got involved in WW2 was because the Chinese bombed Pearl Harbour.

I can't wait until the US starts a war with the CIS/Russia, China, (which they owed $3 trillion to), or the British Empire, I'm going to enjoy watching them get wasted even more than they did Iraq, sorry, Iran, sorry, Afghanistan, who is it they're dominiting, sorry, liberating this month?

Are you over 10 years old?

France is not and never was an enemy of the USA.

In fact, when you consider the unholy mess that has been created by invading Iraq (how many thousands of dead and injured troops, not to mention hundreds of thousands of dead civilians and refugees), and the fact that we (USA and UK) are stuck there for the forseeable future in a never ending spiral of violence...I think France was being a good friend to the USA when they tried to stop the invasion.

Here's a question for you; 'where are the Weapons of Mass destruction' ??? The whole reason for going to war was to stop the development of Nuclear Weapons, and now, 4 years later, both Bush and Blair have publicly admitted there were no weapons - so FRANCE WAS RIGHT!!

In answer to your other questions, I say to you there will NEVER be a war between the US and France ... there is no chance, because America (and the UK) have been allies with France for a long time now...

I remember all those idiots trying to say 'Freedom fries, not French fries' (despite the fact that they're in fact Belgian Fries) around the time of the war against Iraq... and that they didn't want French wine anymore...

does that mean you want to send the Statue of Liberty back to France as well?

Please, be serious... France is one of Americas greatest allies and friends - a true friend tells you when you are wrong, and doesn't just blindly agree with you all the time...

Plus, France is one of Americas biggest trading partners along with the rest of the EU. A war with France would mean breaking up NATO, and the EU with all countries either backing France, or the US, and the UK in the middle.

Not to mention that because of globalisation, large French companies provide millions of jobs in the US. I remember when some fool in Congress tried to stop a French company having the contract to provide the MRE's for the US Army- then they found out it would cost 15,000 jobs!

Britain would hopefully be on the side of Europe rather than the US in my view - unless France had tried something like Nazi Germany did in the 1940's...

So, to recap, no war with France. EVER!!!

Finally, do you even have a clue what nuclear war is? Do you really want to see millions of people in Europe and the US die?

Didn't think so.

Hope this has extended your knowledge a little, and helped you to a better understanding of the issues.

The only reason that France has a permanent seat on the UN Security Council (with a veto vote) is because Sir Winston Churchill lobbied for it just after the war. Together with UK's seat, he wanted a counterweight Western European Country to that of USA, USSR and China.

The French were still in chaos politically and only found out about about SWC acting on their behalf (and in their interests) a few months later.

However... France likes to see itself as an influential power. That is not a bad thing. If you are going to invade France, you will have to invade and take on Germany and Russia... who joined together to lobby against USA's invasion of Iraq. You might be able to take France... and maybe Germany... but you know the Russians would use every dirty trick in the book to defend their motherland.

Has it?

Your question reveals the unbelievable arrogance, ignorance and plain stupidity of so many Americans. This attitude is precisely why your country is so unpopular in the world.

Why has the USA declared itself to be such a strident enemy of the whole Middle East except Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, of France and half of Europe, of Russia, China, Indonesia and Malaysia, of most of Africa and all Latin America except (for the moment) Colombia and Guatemala?

Don't you think you should have a go at Canada and Australia too for daring to occasionally disagree with your (Republican) thinking? New Zealand, for example, could be totally obliterated by a few of your bombs without anybody much noticing.

Go for it!

Sorry, I got angry.

I don't consider your question to be funny or accurate. France has not declared itself an enemy of the USA, it simply thought ,like many in the world, the war with Iraq was wrong. France is a firend of the USA, you may wish to remember who have the USA the Statue of Liberty.
You also seem so very keen on war...I expect you may change your mind if you were shot and experienced your guts hanging out and hve your leg amputated.

If America does go to war with France I think you could well lose. I don't think the UN would stand for an invasion of a country for the reasoning 'they don't like us' and would probably band all the countries under their jurisdiction to defend France. You could well end up getting taken over if you push this attacking countries for no reason stuff too far.

Because in your "mind"- and I use that word in the loosest possible sense- anything is possible. Clearly you live in a hate- and paranoia-filled world wherein WMD's are about to turn up in Iraq, wherein Bush is a great president who'll be vindicated by history, wherein there was a link between Iraq and 9/11, and wherein misusing Yahoo's Travel section is a constructive and worthwhile endeavor.

First of all France did not say no to the US, it said we will not follow Bush to a war that will result in thousands of civilian casualties for lack of proof. France never said it would let down the US, read the papers. Chirac was asking for 30 more days to verify that allegations of WMD were accurate, and if so WOULD go with the US.

BUSH SAID NO, we waited long enough, Saddam has weapons and thats it lets go. The rove spin machine made France look bad, just like they ousted Valerie Palme. There are many sheep in the US, who started hating french that day without knowing why (freedom fries was a pathetic example of political mobbing). If you think about it what you hate was: France was right.

France never let down the USA, it just dared say no to Bush for the sake of innocent civilians and allied military that would have died in the case of faulty intel... which was actually what happened. (not mentioning the instability in the region you now see)

As for the US invading France....... you are a moron

thanks for considering me as best answer

ps: I did like your previous question on: Why doesn't Britain allow George W. Bush to ascend to the throne after Queen Elizabeth II dies? that one made me laugh
