Puerto Rico is a commonwealth, part of the USA. Therefore, us Ricans are already citizens. What call center do you work for? I'm in sales too, doing student loan consolidation but I've done all types of sales.

What in the hell is Gadgetki talking about?!?!?!? The US did not buy land in Puerto Rico and now owns it!!! Have you ever heard of the Spanish-American war? You have no business answering questions when you have NO idea what you are talking about. By the way, the us didn't buy Guam, Saipan, Samoa, etc. either.

Either way, Puerto Ricans are US citizens since the early 1900s. As a direct result of the Spanish-American war and the treaty of Paris, Spain gave up most of its colonies to the US, among them Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Phillipines.

Currently, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth to the US. Although we are US citizens at birth, we don't have to pay federal taxes or vote for the president. However, if we move to the US and become a resident of any state, then we receive both of these rights.

Puerto Rico is a unicorporated territory of the United States. It's citizens are US citizens and can move anywhere they want in the US. They were granted naturalized US citizenship in 1917. Puerto Ricans were granted constitutional legality as natural born citizens in 1940 and they are equal, as Americans, to anyone born in a US state.

Not "become" American citizens--they ARE American citizens. Puerto Rico is a commonwealth that is part of the United States territory, and all citizens of Puerto Rico are American citizens.

Ummm....The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, is a United States unincorporated territory with Commonwealth status and Puerto Ricans have been granted U.S, citizenship since 1917. So anyone who is a legal resident of Puerto Rica is also granted U.S. citizenship.
Take care.

Many Puerto Ricans would prefer not to be citizens of the imperial USA. As Americans, they are subject to the same
blanket rejections worldwide and the same opportunities to get shot at in the USA's declared and secret wars of aggression.

Puerto Ricans are US citizens because their territory is under US Trusteeship.

Because of the Jones Act of 1917, they are already American citizens; however, they can't vote in presidential elections, nor do they pay federal income tax.
