I had this issue. I was sooo addicted to coffee when I found out I was pregnant. My doctor said up to 2 cups of coffee a day was OK, so I cut back the coffee and would have ginger tea (no caffeine and it settles your stomach!) when I wanted something hot. I would try to skip the coffee completely, but I would get a headache around 2 pm without it. I found that only 1/4 cup of coffee would make the headache disappear. So I started having just 1/4 to 1/2 cup a day. And one day I forgot my coffee, and I didn't get a headache! I never was able to get into tea as much as coffee. (Tea is not good in excess, either.) And now I've become a big water drinker-especially with a little bit of lemon.

I wish you the best in getting off of the caffeine. Pregnancy is truly the best motivator!

If you drank a lot of coffee and then found out you were pregnant... there is absolutely nothing you can do about the past. So what you do is make a change for the better and move forward. This is the most that can be asked of anyone - to do their best with the information they have available at the time. Now you know better, you do better.. I believe that is a semi-quote from Maya Angelou... ??

Secondly, one of my favorite hot drinks besides coffee while pregnant or any other time is...... Hot spiced apple cider! Yum! I also enjoy sipping on hot vegetable broth every now and then - just watch the sodium content on that. Decaff tea and coffee is also an option...

All good things...!

I grew up listening doctors tell that caffeine and tobacco are bad for the wealth. Tobacco it seems that everyone has no doubts anymore but caffeine, still gets people wonder. What have happened with the past of the times, is that coffee researches for the ups sides of coffee has been extremely invested, and helping to promote and increase the coffees sells. I also observed, by my own experience that I have gotten more and more addicted to colas drinks than ever before. If caffeine was something healthy, people would not get addicted to it so easily.
If you drink hot coffee, try to replace it to hot chocolate, if you drink cold coffee, try to replaces for juices, or those teas that has no caffeine, like chamomile tea with honey (hot).
PS: My mother, when was pregnant of me, used to drink coffee and smoke, when I was born. I was born premature and my size was too small. Doctors told my mother that someone on my wight and size would not survive and she was young to try another baby. Luckily I survived and I grew up normal. I am 5'8'' and people gets surprise when I tell them, I was premature.

Hi! Don't be to worried. I had 4 kids and drank coffee with them all. They are beautiful and healthy. The doctors mean not to go overboard and drink like 4 or 5 cups a day. A great substitute is lite cocoa. It tastes delicious and calms you down a little. Swiss Miss lite hot chocolate is what I drink. I also drank a glass of wine once in a while. Don't be too worried because it usually is what you over do that's a problem. Too much food, too much stress, too much excercise, too much alcohol, too little sleep etc. is the problem. Pray for your baby and love him in your body and sing to him. Good luck sweetie!

My doctor told me to have 1 cup of coffee in the morning and 1 cup in the afternoon if I really really want it but to make it light & add milk. So I did and all went well. They mean don't have 5-10 cups a day...LOL!
Enjoy your pregnancy!

I was craving white chocolate mocha cappuccino when I was pregnant and nothing happened to my baby. It just made her move a lot when she was in my belly. If you can't stop just limit to 1 cup a day or 2-3 a week. Also, ask your doctor

I've been a heavy smoker since I was a teenager. When I became pregnant for the first time, my doctor told me that it would be MORE stressful on the baby for me to try to stop smoking.

My first born was VERY small - scarey small. She had respertory problems. Today she is fine. But the guilt..... the guilt....

When I got pregnant again, I STOPPED smoking. And the baby was normal size.

If you want your baby to be happy - make the sacrafice.
