I am VERY glad about this. Actually it's what I woke up to this morning. Yep I opened my eyes and the TV said PENS STAYING DEAL MADE. It's been a great day since.

I heard last night on the news at 11pm. I thought I'd won the lottery when I heard that. (I'd buy the Pens if that happened!) Anywho, it's about freaking time. We've been waited for years for this. We have a solid core of young players and now we'll have a new building to support all this talent we have.
Isle of Capri SHOULD have won the slot license (which is in appeal now, cause that Don guy from Detroit is going bankrupt!) So, they might even work something out there.
I don't know exactly what took so long though. An arena can be used 365 days a year which the city could benefit more from.
Desperado59 - band wagon fans eh? I can think of other teams that have real band wagon fans. So before you run your mouth, think first! I don't think you know anything from some of your posts I read. And I think you hate the Pens as well. You from KC or Vegas. If so, sorry, ahh not really! The fans have been faithful to the Pens for tons of years. Last year, we were only a few short of a sell out (about 2,000) people, but those who went to the games made it feel like it was a sell out. Speaking of sell outs (16 out of the last 18, this year). I can go on and on, but I have a paycheck to collect.
Let's Go Pens!
Lord Stanley oh Lord Stanley.....see you soon!

It's official!!! A deal is done! I always had more of a sense that they would stay, even after the impasse was declared. Mario had a sweetheart deal from Kansas City, and if he REALLY wanted to move the team, he would have signed the KC deal long ago. By declaring the impasse he told state and local officials "hey, lets do this now or else". I'm thrilled that the Penguins are staying, and that the city of Pittsburgh will get a new arena not only for the Pens but for concerts, potential NCAA tournament games, and the like.
Big ups to Gov. Rendell, Mayor Rahvenstahl, Executive Oranato, and Mr. Lemieux for getting the job done!
LETS GO PENS!!!

I am not surprised. Here is a repost of my answer to a question. "Who wants to see the Penguins leave?"
The handwriting will be on the wall when the actual announcement to move is made. Even then a move decision can be reversed. Much of what you hear is positioning by the pens' organization to pressure Pittsburgh city politicians and state politicians to rethink their position on arena funding. They have spent a bundle on Football and Baseball stadiums. The question is.....whether they will fund a hockey arena or let the franchise go. Politicians will wait for sentiment and the Pens organization will wait for the politicians while continuing to search for a new home. The new home search is pressure on both hockey fans and politicians. If the pressure becomes unbearable for the politicians they will act to keep the franchise. So.......what does that tell you? Get the ball rolling and don't wait for a move and it's too late. Call your city counsellor, state representatives or anyone who could have a say in keeping the Pens in Pittsburgh. The last hockey franchise in Kansas City didn't make it. NHL Hockey has been in Pittsburgh since 1968, nearly 40 years. Don't stand by if you want to keep it there.
By the way....I am an Edmonton Oiler fan and live in Canada. I want to see the Pens stay in Pittsburgh too.
Go Georges Laraque!!!!

It's about time a team decides to stand by its host city. Most host cities really sacrifice a lot for the benefit of greedy owners. Hartford stood up to Karmanos and now where are the Whalers? In Raleigh of all places. When I lived there nobody knew what ice hockey was. Hockey shouldn't be about profit.
If this is true, congrats to Pittsburgh and the fans. It's a good day for NHL hockey. I may become a Pens fan!

its great news that the Pens are staying in Pittsburgh. this is a team from the next 6 and they've been around for 40 years this team should of never been even talking about moving. they have the fans they just never really had the support from the Gov. in the State. but I'm happy there staying cause the fans deserve it. why even consider teams like K.C and Vegas when we all know there not going to be supported at all and them too would be gone after 10 or 15 years if the would of moved in this city's.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Yeah that's what a playoff push will do, espically with how bad the Flyers are doing. Rendell is a Philly guy so having them do bad does make him want to keep the Pens around so there is a good team in the State. Anyway I'm waiting for this to be finalized. Sure already think it is great and I'm happy, but want the ink to be dry.

I'd love to see them stay...but...
hasn't the city had enough time to come up with a solid plan? The fans aren't in question, the city officials are... which is too bad. From the business perspective, the Pens think they should move. City officials obviously don't see them as worthwhile. A new arena is all the Pens' management is thinking about, but it isn't what they should be thinking about. Look at Boston. They got a new arena (9 years ago) and attendance keeps going down. Look at Carolina. They win the Cup and they still have inconsistent attendance. Pittsburgh needs a new arena with the fans they have. Unfortunately, those two parts of an equation won't seem to fit.

Giddyup! I am quite pleased to see within the answers posted here the knowledge that Pittsburgh has a great hockey fan base. All too often in other forums I would see someone post to the effect that "yeah, the pens should leave Pittsburgh and go where they will be supported - they're almost last in revenue...blah blah blah" I grew tired from pointing out that the pens are only near last in revenue because THEY NEED A NEW ARENA!"
Now that it's all settled and the pens are staying in Pgh, to all you Pittsburgh haters from KC and Ontario...neener neener neener! and hardy "Ha ha!" in my best Nelson of the Simpsons voice. ; )

This is a huge relief, not only for the Penguins fans but for the whole NHL. If the Penguins were to relocate to a different city, this would've been a big embarrasment..possibly more damaging in terms of reputation to the league than the lockout. And I would give a lot of credit to the gov of Pennsylvania; he has worked really hard to reach the agreement.
