I am 100% a cat person, and have owned several cats all my life, and most passed away...
Currently I own a 14 year old long haired calico cat that is so beautiful with patches of black, white, and orange all over her body and I named her Pachez to define her colors...

You pronounce it the same as patches, I just wanted a different spelling...
She is a sweet cat and follows me around the house...

Right now I have 5 cats and only one dog;/ but I prefer dogs, they come when you call, some of my cats do also, but every hearing dog will come. I like having a wagging tail greet me when I walk in the door---which dogs do, cats, just sit up and stretch, bored with it all. Maybe they will meow in greeting, but they don't give you lots of wet kisses, cats tongues are too rough, dogs sometimes tickles, but never rough! It's too difficult to give cats a bath, take on drives; on the other-hand, cats can be left at home by themselves, as long as there is plenty of food and water and a "doggie" door to let themselves out or kitty litter. We let our dog do this also, but for long trips, we take the dog or trade w/other dog owners to sit. I love all animals, so it really is hard to say! :-) I personally don't think it's worth fighting about which is better, it depends a lot on your life situations. As long as you love both and take really good care of them, does it really matter to you which is more preferred?? ;-) I know it does to a lot of people; but as long as you have the type you and your family preferrs, that's what should matter to you mostly. I preferr happy, healthy pets & plan to keep them until they die of old age. I've had a 15yr. old dog, a 18yr.old dog, and a 19 year old dog. My cats, I don't know their ages, hard to tell when they are strays. Cats have their benefits too, I'm just more allergic to them, :-( so sad, isn't it??

Im a dog person. I have had no luck with cats they are too high maintenance and are too in love with themselves. Dogs are a little harder to care for but at least they are friendly.

Dog, I love dog. When a girl, I used to have dog, cats, birds, fish and even those little monkeys in home. I guess I love all animals, but Dog is my favorite over all of them.
