why can add speed to approx. 70 to 80 kb from computer software?

After checking for spyware/malware, and then determining that your modem has no issues(or switching for a new one), call your ISP and ask them if they are having any problems, to first eliminate that possibility. Then call your phone company, and don't mention anything about your internet/dial-up, but just raise a big stink about your phone service, saying that you frequently hear a lot of static when thalking to people and that at times it is difficult for you to carry on a conversation, and insist that they come out and replace the outside and inside lines and connections.

It has to do with compression or omission of the data. Some programs/modems will buffer the data, this allows for a continuous feed. Some services/programs will compress and then decompress the data or omit fine graphics. The actual speed of transmission cannot change as the transmission line limits the bandwidth and frequency.

You can't get speeds like that on dialup, you'd need broadband.
