1) Only pick on questions that you know something about becasue if the asker is selecting the answer they are going to go for one that seems to know what they are talking about.
2) Research the question via the internet facility and instead of waffling on include the links to one or two really good sites that will address everythig that the questioner is looking for- for example if they are asking about holiday suggestion ..give some of your favourites and briefly why but also include a link to one of the holiday/travel sites.
3) Stay away frm questions that already have heaps of answers (unless you are an expert in the topic) because the more answers there are the less likely you are to get picked.
4) Build up your points (carefully) until you reach level 2 and can vote for best answer on questions- then whenever you log on click on your id and go through the list of your answers looking for any that say "in voting" and (so long as you can remember your answer) pick yourt own answer. Its odd because if I cant find any questions of interest.. I go back to the closed and undecided questions (that I didnt answer) and sometimes there are 10 answers and no has voted at all- not even for themselves.

give a best answer. if u answer heaps but ur answer is shitty then ur not gonna get best answer.
