the answer is No.
"The erroneous bit of folk wisdom you refer to says that water always drains in a clockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere, and in a counterclockwise direction in the Northern Hemisphere. The supposed reason for this "fact" is the Coriolis effect, which has to do with the effect of the earth's rotation on moving objects.
Well, there is such a thing as the Coriolis effect. It explains why macroevents such as hurricanes rotate in a clockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere. However, when you get down to itty-bitty phenomena such as the water draining out of your bathtub, the Coriolis effect is insignificant, amounting to roughly three ten-millionths of the force of gravity (in Boston, at least, which is where they happened to do the measuring).
The boring truth is that water drains every which way no matter what hemisphere you're in, for reasons which have to do mostly with the shape of the drain, the way you poured in the water in the first place, and so on." -Straight Dope

I had a lot of fun when I visited the equator near Quito a couple of years ago. The water does swirl counterclockwise on the south side, and clockwise on the north side of the equator. It's amazing how close to the equator this can actually be demonstrated. We were shown a sink which was moved about five feet north of and south of the equator. A little leaf was put in it so we could see clearly the change. On the equator itself was the coolest I thought, though. There the water just goes straight down. No swirling or anything. It was a really awesome demonstration.
p.s. Did you also know that you can balance an egg on the head of a nail on the equator? That's something that's really fun and cool to do. You can't do it anywhere else.

The water in the toilet does not swirl, it churns. As for sinks, it usually goes whichever way it likes. Probably anticlockwise if you pulled the plug when it was absolutely still. One of these centuries, when I have got tired of watching paint dry, I'll try it.

I have been to both hemispheres, and yes, the toiled flush swirls in different directions. Its hard to see though since most toilets now are powerful enough that they just flush straight down rather than swirl down.
