Top selling car through both these decades was propably the Ford Escort. Many others produced like Cortina, Morris Marina, Vauxhall Cavalier, Austin Allegro, Ford Capri, Vauxhall Viva, Victor, Astra, but I'm sure Escort sales were highest.

In terms of cars the E Type Jag was the most sought after car although I preferred Triumph's TR series particularly the TR6. In terms of family cars the Triumph Dolomite was my favourite - a nice car, sounded great had a luxury interior and was fast for its time.

The old style VW Beetle must surely be a contender. Cool styling (the well kept ones look brilliantly good even today). They had a unique look unlike a lot of cars of the era and despite being over 60 years old they never cease to turn my head.

Nobodies said the Rover SD1 3500 with the V8. Built by idiots, but what an engine, and it set the shape of the future with its design. It was actually a really good car to drive, and with the V8 engine would definitely get my vote,

Well, technically it is not a "family" car, although we could get us all in.
It is a 1974 mini, which I still have today, and in superb original condition. It is retired as a family transport and now takes a few outings to shows etc.

Austin 1800 "Landcrab". Ugly as they came, but otherwise a great design and good to drive over long distances. It was a great shame that Issigonis was permitted to influence the styling. If they had some decent stylists on to it the BMC/Leyland/whatever company might still be operating today.
