UMD is for the PSP and Blu-ray is for PS3 and Blu-ray players.

UMD doesn't hold as much info as a Blu-ray disk.

UMD is Sony's battle against software piracy. Since there are no UMD player or recorder available to the public, it's going to be tough for software pirates to burn UMD games and movies.

Blu-ray is Sony's answer to the next storage media. First, there was VHS, then CD, then DVD, and Sony is hoping that Blu-ray will be the successor to DVD.
