My 5 month baby has become extremely fussy at night. We give her her normal last feed after her bath at 7.30pm and she falls asleep during the feed. We keep her upright for 30 mins and she doesn't always burp. Usually 30 mins after this, she wakes up crying and throws up. She is really unsettled all night and will not even sleep in her cot. She ends up in the bed with us. The other problem is she will not keep down any medicines as they all make her sick. She is fine all day and this only happens at night. She is definately teething, but could this also be Acid Reflux or Colic and what can we do to make it easier?

sounds like what i'm going thru exactly...however mine's is 8months...I know for a fact that he wasn't colic but if he were there's a milk called Similac Alimentum. My son, richard, has reflux and has had it ever since he was 2 months. As for teething, I just give him night time orajel with a little dose of tylenol or motrin. However, if your baby is colicy, Similac Alimentum is the best. My son was switched to seven different milks and finally Alimentum came and he wasn't throwing up as much or fussy any more....so you can probably give that a try.

Always burp your baby after she feeds. Even if she wakes up, it's better to get the burp out so she doesn't have pain or throw up. If you hold her upright and rub or pat her back gently, this will usually be enough to get the burp out, then you can put her to bed. For my daughter, I had to POUND on her back HARD (almost hard enough to hurt her) in order to get her to burp, but she usually slept right through it! If burping after feeding isn't enough to stop the problem, you may need to burp her before AND after feeding her. Most likely, her problem just due to not getting the burps out, but if you get the burps out and she continues to have this problem, take her to the doctor to find out what else you can do about it.

it could be that her teething is starting to come out and it's hurting her. my daughter had the same problem and the doctor told us to give her some teething tablets to help her or you can put on some baby orajel to help relieve the pain temporary. you can also help her out by using a teething ring or a cold washcloth so she can chew on it to help her gums out. if your daring enough you could take your fingers and rub her gums so she will feel better.

The best way to know is ask your doctor. He/she could check if anything wrong with your baby.
