and click "Can you run it?"
It will collect your computer hardware specs and tell you.
To be honest though, in my opinion (and even CNET's...a leader in computing websites), Vista sucks. I would wait like a year and then just buy a new computer that has Vista built in...or better yet, buy a Mac and then you can have both windows and mac in one amazing computer.
And if you don't want to buy a new computer you can always do some slight hardware upgrades and purchase Vista at a later date after the bugs have been fixed and the price has gone down.
Honestly though, Vista is just a really crappy copy of Mac OS X.
Don't take my word for it: http://www.osweekly.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2300&Itemid=449
If you go to CNET.com (a leader in computing websites) they tell you exactly why Vista sucks...and exactly why you should not waste your money on it! Check here for the top 5 reasons not to buy Vista: http://www.cnettv.com/9710-1_53-26158.html?tag=vid
I know that you didn't ask about Macs, but just in case you are interested read on...if not, then just skip this section. Macs seriously are the future in computing. I just got my first one and I've never been so amazing with a computer in my life. It never has ANY problems whatsoever. Plus if I ever need to use Windows software, I have partitioned my harddrive so that I can run either Mac OS X or Windows. It really is nifty...you should look into it. Windows runs faster on my Mac then it does on any other computer I've ever owned (and I've had several amazing PCs in my day...yet they truly just don't compare with Mac). Here's a short clip on the new iMac Core 2 Duo (which my best friend just got and it ROCKS! I have the MacBook Core 2 Duo...which is also amazing). http://www.cnettv.com/9710-1_53-26158.html?tag=vid
here's info on the macbook: http://www.cnettv.com/9710-1_53-26158.html?tag=vid
Keep in mind, you can still run Windows, even Vista, on these computers!
If you do still decide to get Vista make sure that you do your research before buying. Vista Ultimate is by far the best, but has a hefty price tag at almost $400. You can check out the differences in specifications here: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2068721,00.asp

Don't bother. Just type "vista problems" in the Search for answers box above.
While you're waiting for MS to fix the Vista problems. Get UBUNTU.
It's a free, reliable and up to date operating system.
You can explore it from the "LIVE CD".
It's easy to install and use. You can dual boot it with other operating systems.
Once you have it installed, you gain access to thousands of free programs created by the open source community. There is excellent support - see the WIKI starter guide, and the Linux forums.
Always back up your data before making changes to your computer.

Your current specs will not run Vista. First, Vista needs a 64MB Graphic Card as a minimum (128MB is recommended though).
Then you'll need a DVD drive to read the DVD for installation.
Your RAM is very small and will really slowdown when you run Vista. 1GB is the best minimum RAM.
Lastly, your HDD is very small. It may allow you to install Vista but with that much space, it won't last long. Get around 100GB at least to have the Vista to run smoothly.
