Hi, I'm Ryan and I'm 20. I have an idea for a musical and I've written a synopsis and some lyrics. Since I have never done this before, I would love some feedback from people who enjoy musicals. I'd hate to write everything only to find out I suck! lol
It is gay themed, so if you're not into that, your imput won't help me.
Thanks and hugs, Ryan

Ryan -

One thing I learned about writing a musical is that when a character sings a ballad - very often they are changed - or something has changed by the end of the song. They discover something in the song - and then at the end of it they are ready to move on or conquer the problem or whatever. I'd never noticed that before - but when co-writing a show for the San Francisco Fringe - my very smartest most talented theatre friend pointed that out to me. It really helped!

I know that doesn't even touch on everything you need to know - but maybe it will be one thing you can keep in mind.

just write your play first. :) let the ideas flow. the first draft may suck, but hey, you always have room to improve.

getting feedback will actually help you gain more ideas. no matter what the topic may be, there should be an impact or message you want to partake to the audience. i've seen a lot of gay-themed plays, and each of them has a unique message that makes the play excellent.

go for the script. better start now or let your ideas be developed by someone else! :)
