Is Sanibel Island in Florida really all that good for shelling?

I'm going to Ft. Myers and have heard a lot about the shelling there. Any tidbits of information would be helpful.

go right when it get light, that is where you find the best of them... there are more shells on the beach than there are sand.. litterally.. it is one sweet place....

You wouldn't believe the people that go there just for the shells. I live in Bonita and don't get to Sanibel much especially this time of year but yes, it is known for it's amazing shells.
