Good question. I still can't believe that two face traitor (F.W. de Klerk) gave our country away just like that. I wonder how he feels about it now? I hope he hates himself for doing that. P.W. Botha was a great leader. This country would have been waaaaaaaaay better off today if P.W. Botha had been given enough time to make this country a better country and I'm sure he would've done a great job.

No doubt about it there would be a representative government of all race groups and it would have been a far safer country, but at the time the pace of change was deemed too slow and De Klerk with the support of more liberals orchestrated the palace revolt which led to the mess we now face.

I think that P.W was too slow in reforming, and F.W. was pressured to make it swift and quickly. Do not know where the pressure came from, but it was there.

I think FW found a way of enriching himself (noble peace prize) whilst handing over power under pressure from international governments.

PW on the other hand was a blatant racist who under no means would have handed over power - he wanted it all to himself. His "reform policies" were just a smokescreen for something else - allow the black man to think they have a say in the country, but do what suits the white man.

this country is a place where power in government means only one thing - money.

since time immamorial government officials in SA have used their seats of power to enrich only themselves, the old apartheid regime included. remember the old Bophutatswana? it was a brilliant move on the old reime's behalf - they had a perfect tax haven right inside their own country where their dirty money they had plundered from various shady deals could be laundered perfectly.

in these days of technology and open world wide trade, they simply transfer their dirty money to a Channel Island or Swiss Bank account.

Once again, its all about economics and democracy.

He who controls the economics, controls the democracy...

and again i ask why does america always have to stick their nose in other peoples business!
they should have let PW Botha do what he did best!
we would of had a great country where we all would have lived a safer life, and there would have been equality in this country and not what our government call equality.

Yinna, guys,

If you are going to talk about this stuff go learn your history please.

America gave him a timetable and an ultimatum.

Have it done or we will come and do it for you !!!!!!!!! Do you seriously think that he would have given up his orchestrated dictatorship willingly?
