For video card compatably, You need to know if your system is AGP or if its PCI,

Click start then run type dxdiag press enter, let it do its thing then, click the display tab copy the Name of the video card thats installed, pay attention to the type if it says, (You can run the DX tests if you want to).

You system spects should be enough to play any game.. Not sure about the video card though.. If its onboard, then go with upgrading to a newer video card. .. AGP, PCI? Get the correct card and Before you install it write down all the numbers on it and on the chip unless you know exactly what card it is, then just plug it into the top slot (with the power off). and install the drivers when the pc boots after it finds the generic drivers for it.
BUT
Perhaps you just need to install the drivers for your vid card, (windows has generic ones). If the DxDiag told you the name of the vid card just search www.driverguide.com for your operating system and drivers, install them and then reboot and then try the game again.. If DXdiag gives you the 82845G as the video then go here,
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=865
select your os and install it.
OR
Perhaps your screen resolution is not set correctly for the game to run. Right click the desktop and set your screen resolution to 800 x 600, and try running the game again. if its set to that already then you should try one of the higher settings, ( 1024 x 768 ). then try the game again..

yeah, you can get a pci video card to slide into your pci bus in the back of the computer, install the drivers that come with it and thats it. dont worry about removing the factory one.

*IF* the Nvidia card your friend wants to give you is a PCI... NOT PCIe (PCI EXPRESS) card it will work in your computer.

unfortantely, your computer only has PCI slots.....
