Thanks for the answers and advice! I usually don't drive that fast but was driving on the 10 freeway on the way to and from Arizona on a spring training roadtrip.

start with the basics.... check you power steering fluid. IF you dont know about this get someone that does.
Secondlly it's all guess work. Your local mechanic may have to do the research BUT I WOULD go to your local tire dealer FIRST. Tell them you need your tires balanced. They put them on a machine that spins your tires at a high rate of speed telling them where they need to put weights. These weighs are just cheap peices of lead that come in different weights and or sizes. They simple put them where the machine tells them to put them. Then they snap right on usually with a small hammer.
Winter weather or ice or snow will often cause these to pop off making your tires un balanced. Just get them back on. Take your dad or boy friend with you when you do this cause they'll have you buying a whole new set of tires. Unfortunitlly this may actually be the problem. One or more of your tires could have the inner core or belts broken causing a bubble effect. Not noticable. Sometimes it is noticable just look at your tires closelly then drive forward or back ward ten ft. so you can check them all the way around especially on the inside where your head will have to go under the car. Worse case sinario you may need to replace one or more tires- OR your power steering pump may be going out.
Q: is there oil around your power steering reservor? this may be a seal going out causing your power steering fluid to leak meaning you'll have to add fluid regularlly until you fix the problem.
Q#2: why are you going 80 MPH?

First of all you shouldn't be doing 80 mph.You tryin to kill yourself?Check for tire wear.If balding, replace. Also check for incorrect tire air pressure. If the tires are in good shape, this could be caused by improper front end alignmentand or faulty suspension parts, steering components. For Gods' sake, slow down and smell the roses before you become a statistic.

Over 80 mph is fast for the Escape and is from the vibration from the engine because of the high RPM you are making.

It sounds like your front wheels are not balanced for that speed. if they have not been balanced in awhile you may want to take it in to a good tire shop and have all 4 tires checked and rebalanced and have a 4 wheel alignment done on the car.

It's a Ford. Hellooooo? You shouldn't be going that fast anyway, but better have it checked just to be sure. You wouldn't want to loose your steering wheel at that speed.

could be,
rotors, you need an alignment, Upper or lower Balljoint, inner or outer tierod, thrown a tire weight
or it's just a F.O.R.D. Found On Road Dead, Driver Ret On Foot... Fix Or Repaire Daily... F**ked Over Rebuilt Dodge... First On Recal Day....
