What's the difference between betting and raising, and when can these be applied? I know the general rules of Hold 'em, but when it's 1 vs 1, I don't know what's the difference between betting and raising. Help would be great. Thanks!

Betting is to place a bet, which is to put money that you have the best hand. To raise is if someone bets you, you can see their bet (in other words, challenge them saying that YOUR hand is better than theirs, or to bluff) and then increase their bet.

In both situations, the opposer can chose to either meet or raise your bet, or they can fold and lose only the money they have already bet.

For instance, if I bet you $5 that my hand is the best, you could either see my bet (bet $5), raise my bet (bet more than $5) or fold (bet no further).

doesnt matter if it is 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 5. If there is no bet and it is your turn, you can check or bet. If someone bet and it is your turn, you can fold, call, or raise --- raise means that you will call the bet and then make another bet on top of it ...

Betting is when no-one has staked any money and you then make a wager.
Raising is when someone has staked some money and you top it.
E.G.
Betting - I bet $50
Raising - You have bet $50. I raise to $100
