The other day I watched "Face Off." For the most part I enjoyed it - it was good to see an action movie - I don't watch movies much at all and then mostly comedies.
Anyway, throughout the whole movie nick cage and John Travolta shoot oozies at each other - rounds and rounds of amo. To me it took away from the believabilty of the show because in real life those guys would have been dead 2 seconds into the chase seen.
I know its just a movie but there is the factor in a movie/play/book, etc, regardoing believablitly. Basically the movie, and so on, has to suspend the fact that the audience knows that what they are watching isn't real.
Please give me some feedback on this - especially if you are fan of action movies.

why shouldn't movies use excessive action to grab the viewer's attention? sure they both would have been dead three or four times over, but thats movies for you. come on, is James Bond that believable? not really, but it makes for an AWESOME series of films!

My son and I always laugh during action movies with shoot outs when the following happens. The good guy is always shooting with a semi-automatic pistol and the bad guys always have fully automatic assault rifles. The bad guys always miss even though they are firing off better than 30 rounds a second while the good guy nails every bad guy in the scene before his 10 - 15 round clip goes empty....regardless if there are 5 or 25 bad guys. Completely believable!! Hey...it's just a movie is our response.

I get the same impression, especially when the good guy only has a hand gun like a 38 or a 45 and the bad guys are shooting at him with Uzis. They are peppering the world around him he steps out and shoot the bad guys and they can hit him with a thousand bullets.

I really think that the people shot in action movies might be losing a lot of novelty (eg James Bond). This is what I think because they always combine action movies with romance so that it would be pleasurable for cassanovas, femme fatales, and lotharios.

You can't have lots and lots of gunplay between two characters if they actually hit each other.
(And Hollywood LOVES lots and lots of gunplay!)
