i know i can't recover it anymore, does blocking the iemi really works?

First, file a police report on your stolen cell phone. Then, call your cell phone provider immediately to report it lost/stolen. They will turn off the service or suspend it for you, usually free of charge. If not, it's a small fee & well worth it. Blocking the IMEI doesn't work. The phone service needs to be suspended immediately.
Calls made AFTER the phone was stolen and BEFORE you reported it are YOUR responsibility. Pray that the person who has the phone or finds it doesn't call internationally or get online with it. The faster you file the reports, the less you'll have to pay.
Don't waste time with the insurance on your phone if you have it. They will NOT replace the phone with a brand new one. It'll be refurbished, meaning something was wrong with it & the cell company or the manufacturer repaired it. Talk to you cell phone provider to get a discount of some sort on a new phone. If you lost a prepaid phone, things are different. You lost the money you put on the card as well as the phone.

Call the company your phone is through and report it to police. If you go to police, they won't be able to put coverage on the phone. Also, going to police and the phone company, they will be able to see if there is any activity on the phone. Good Luck to you.
