The fish 'Cichlid' incorporates a huge variety of extremely differant fish and should never, ever be generalized - if somebody tells you any fact about 'cichlids' without pointing to a specific variety, the information is probably not correct.

Of all the great links already provided by the posters, www.cichlid-forum.com is as reliable as they come - the site is built and operated by very experienced and dedicated cichlid keepers - the articals are accurate and the moderators of the forum there do a great job of straightening out misinformation in the threads.

Good luck

What type of cichlid. There are literally hundreds of fish that fit into the category cichlid. And they live very different lives. Some eat veggies and algea, others eat meat. Some hold eggs and fry in their mouths, others lay them on rocks or substrate. Some have both parents involved in raising offspring, some just the mom, others have generations caring for the offspring. Some live in rocks, some like open water.
