I'm working on getting my AAS degree "Architecture & Building Technology" and I was wondering what career options/possiblities are out there besides being an architect? I just applied for my occupational certificate for AutoCAD Foundations for 2D drafting which will help for a PT job in the mean time. I would like to work residential, but doing what I'm not really sure.

architecture is a wide profession, it branches out into different fields of study from landscape architecture to interior design. of course you need to study these as separate courses, but basically, they fall under the architectural field. however, architecture is not a universal profession. unlike IT-related courses and some medical professions, you will need to restudy again once you go out of your country.

if you wanted to work at home, got a space for a small workplace, and you have a couple of possible contacts and eventual clientele, then why not try some freelance work? it starts from small-scaled projects and soon you will realize you're into the real deal.

otherwise you can start applying as junior architect or as CAD designer. since architecture comprises a couple of professional fields, you have a big opportunity to have a work in no time. just apply for the job that you would most likely enjoy.

good luck!
