As long as the parent guppies have a lot of color, so too will the babies. When I had guppies the males all seemed to have different patterns and colors that would change as they got older. When the fry reach 6-8 weeks you will really start to notice the boys from the girls.

Well basically you need to be sure there are only nice looking males in the same tank, and that the females came from the same parents, or at least uncles. A female guppy can mate with several males, and stay knock up for several birth cycles. Mixing two lines/types/breeds of guppy rarely turns out well.

Now---there you go------to get the fancy and or colorful guppies you have to exercise selective breeding and keep a close eye on them---------you need a special tank to keep virgin females so they cannot breed with males that do not possess the traits you wish your breeding stock to possess.------This requires constant culling-------since in nature the will to propagate the species is strong enough for live bearing fish to change sex from female to male------therefore you will have to cull out the females that start to change sex right away because they are always poor breeding stock if you desire nice looking guppies.

The male babies will be very similar to male involved. Females tails will resemble the mother.

If you breed them you will slowly get a better colour, but introduce one or two females every few months.
