My friends and I have made reservations to camp at the Upper Pines this weekend, and we're first-timers so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of equipment I need to bring, if the groceries at Curry Village are tolerable (price wise), any must-sees, are they strict with the policy about quiet hours being from 10pm-6am? And any additional details would be nice, thanks.

Thanks! Well, we're very outgoing people so fitness issues won't be a problem =). So far we've made a list to bring a bunch of board games to keep occupied..and we've made a note to do some photography..but as far as what to do when we get there, we have no idea. We're open to any suggestions that'll make our trip worthwhile. We're going to all be chipping in to buy the necessities (food, toiletries, etc). And none of us have ever been there, so we were wondering what the weather might be like during this time of year? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

I agree, buy groceries in Merced before you head up the hill to Yosemite. We are having a warm spell in CA right now that is supposed to continue into the weekend, but there will still be snow on the ground in Yosemite and it will be chilly at night. Bring warm clothes and prepare to dress in layers.

Be sure to keep your food stored in the lockers - the bear risks in the campgrounds are for real. Store all deoderant, toothpaste and anything else with a scent in there too. The rules are enforced though the campgrounds are less crowded this time of year.

There is tons and tons of hiking in Yosemite - the choices are unlimited and depend on your physical ability and your desire on any given day. You really can't go wrong. Some places may be closed or hard to reach due to snow, but we have had a low snow year this year. If you can, try snowshoeing - we really enjoy it. You can probably rent equipment in the Village. Hiking poles are good to have since trails may be snowy or icy.

Hi! We go every year in the summer. I would recommend bringing in your own food. Would like to know more about your fitness level and what it is you and your friends like to do and I may be able to give you more suggestions besides the obvious.

Yosemite is about one thing hiking and seeing beautiful waterfalls and mountains. Unless you are a rock climber and then it is about climbing them. :-)
