It depends on the individual couple. Some keep their original names, some combine their names, and some have one take the other's name. I don't know the proportion of each, however. I'm going to take a guess and say that probably most just keep their individual names. The advantage of a same sex couple is that they don't have the same pressures to be traditional and can do what ever they think is best for themselves.

"Normal people." Bleh! Who is really normal?

Funny, in many "straight" marriages, the wife retains her own name. Why would a name and such be of importance to you or anyone else? It would seem that issue is best left to those getting married, isn't it? They could retain their name (and therefore their sense of self), they could hyphenate both last names, or .... play like they are straight and take a name. I personally think that Gays are far more evolved than straights...they have NO need to show off to the world that they are worthy enough to "get a husband." How archaic can you get?

Men do sometimes take their wive's last name, also, not all married couples change names at all. As for who takes what name is up to the couple and no convention need be followed by any couple, gay or straight.

I know when I get married, I'm taking his last name because mine is awful. Seriously, I don't care what his last name is, I'm taking it.

Unless it sounds good hyphenated with mine. Then we can do that.

like straight couples do now...they just choose what they are going to do...no hard and fast rules.
