I argue they are because they help those that are in need, my friend says that they are not...because hero's are those that put their personal lives in danger....are blood donars heros?

I don't like to think of them as hero's because my old next door neighbor only does it for the money and free stuff. Heck half the people I know who gave blood did it for selfish reasons and not to help those in need. Not to say there aren't people that give out of the goodness in their heart.

They are people who are trying to help others. Most people are not aware that diseases or syndromes may spread to the person you donate to. Fibromyalgia and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome are two examples. Be sure to ask medical professionals familiar with your health problems before donating. You sure would not be considered a hero if you donate and give your health problems to somebody else.

I thought I was when I was donating, because they are giving to those that need it. If someone was dieing and just need 4 pints to live and you had it to give wouldn't that be considered a hero. I would think so.

So many people would not be alive today if not for those anonymous people who give their time and blood so generously.
If that is not a hero, then I do not know what is!

I think they are. It's a selfless act and it saves others. I just worry sometimes that there might be psychos who are infected with diseases and they still donate blood.
That said, I want to donate blood! (but I must overcome this irrational fear of needles!)
UPDATE:
Where I live, they don't give money to donors, because it's all voluntary!

If no one donated blood, I would be dead and my child motherless.
I took in 7 pints over three days after a c-section gone wrong.
I owe my life to blood donors.
