China would be very similar to what Taiwan is today.
"A sparkling democracy"? Please!! The political parties (KMT and DPP) own the media, and Taiwan is constantly ranked low in international polls of press freedom. Corrupt? Each election is often accompanied by vote-buying, and of those elected some have connections to organised crime. Years ago it was discovered that many of the municipal leaders in the Taipei city government all had two passports (R.O.C. and U.S.). How is that for "patriotism"? Take a look at some of the headlines in Taiwan's media recently, and you'll get an idea. For example - Keelung's former Mayor.
You need to look a little deeper, the impression that you have that China would be "sparkling" is a false one.
Poor CKS (Jiang Jie-shi), he cried when Lin Biao died on Sept. 13, 1971, since he knew his wet dream for "retaking the Mainland" was over. He would never see China again. The KMT never had a chance.
p.s. Sorry, but "richful" is not a word.

There's one big problem with your theory. The Nationalists and KMt were not pro-democracy. They overthrew the republican democracy established under the leadership of Sun Yat Sen following the collapse of the Chinese monarchy in 1911.
There is no exact Western parallel in the West--but the Nationalists most closely resempled the European fascists--or the Tojo regime in Japan (though they were never anywhere nearly as well organized as either).
Most likely what you would have ended up with is a right-wing dictatorship--but certainly not a demmocracy. And teh Nationalists on Taiwan will never have any chance of gaining power on the mainland. They lost power because they lost the support of the Chinese people--and for good reason--in addition to being dictatorial, they were unbeleivably corrupt. Granted, the CCP is also a dictatorship--but by and large people were--and are--far better off than they ever were under the Nationalists. And Chinese culture is such that they have veery long memories.
If you want the details--there are any number of good hstories of modern China out there.

Its funny that you should ask that question, because thats exactly what U.S foreign policy analysts were asking in 1949, when civil war broke out between the communists and the KMT/ nationalists.
Anxious to see the fall of communism, the U.S actively backed the KMT with supplies and aid against the communists. However the KMT just did not have the backing. Ordinary chinese were sick of the KMT that had not defended China against the Japanese.
One of the great 'ifs' of history. Would not be easy to answer -
all depends on the attitude of the U.S, if other countries in Asia-Pacific region trusted the new nation, how integrated the KMT became in the region.

Well it would be full of corrupt people… o no PRC has that too…
Um they would be lead by an oligarchy of bureaucrats! No, damn they have that too. Hmm
They would have favored trade status and a lot of manufacturing would happen there and… hmmmmmm
In reality, the only things that would be different is Tibet would still be a nation and there wouldn’t a big picture of Mao everywhere. The only important difference is that people wouldn’t have suffered as much in the 50s-80’s. China is China, it isn’t like the west where the culture is broken up into a bunch of little states. It is a monolithic ancient culture, and what made the PRC work is what would have made any Chinese nations work.
