How can you tell the gender of your Guppies? Male Guppies are slimmer and more colorful than females. A pregnant female Guppies has a dark spot on the rear part of her abdomen. This spot is called a gravid spot.
A male Guppy has a modified fin called a gonopodium that a female does not have. Click here: http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/livebearer_swords/swordtails.htm#gonopodium
to go to the web page about Swordtails where you can see pictures that show the difference between the fins of male and a female Swordtails. Male and female Guppies have this same difference in their fins.

Once a female Guppy is pregnant, she can release babies about once a month for up to six months without a male in the aquarium. So your Guppy females may continue to release babies, even if you don't have a male Guppy now.

Baby Guppies are too small to eat Freeze Dried Blood Worms. Feed your baby Guppies fine powered food. Click here: http://www.aquariumfish.net/information/raising_baby_fish.htm#4
for information about to prepare powdered food for your baby Guppies.
to read more about Guppies in the Encarta Encyclopedia, where you can search for information about anything.

I hope this answered your questions for you. I raise guppies and swordtails and find it relaxing and enjoyable. Good luck you.

It depends from guppy to guppy. yes these little things are very hard to substain. Male guppies are usually more colorful than female guppies and you can probably tell when they are about one inch. As for fins, it really varies, guppies are different from store to store. Most guppies should have color around 1.5 inches. If not, then it's prob albino. :) i had an aquarium of guppies, and even my dad, a fish maniac, couldn't keep them alive. *sniff*

Well as they grow take a good look at the anal fin-----notice the female-----her anal fin looks like a fan------as some slowly start to exhibit male features (about 2 1/2----3 months) you will notice the anal fin starts to look like it is closing up--it starts to become like a little rod---it actualy called a gonopodium (hope I'm spelling it right) and will deliver the sperm packets to the females--------you might notice some driving and herding females even before the gonopodium is fully developed. After about 3 months they start to bet more colorful if the environmental conditions are favorable.5---6 months females will start getting pregnant.
