Don't reply with a typical "Why would they" or any variation of that please!

State constitutions vary, but say for example Bush were to return to Texas where he was once the State Governor, could he be legally elected Governor again...or if he went back to his birth state, or any other US State, could he legally do this? It doesn't matter, think of any living President or ex-President, Carter, Bush Sr, Clinton. Could any of them do this? Have any ex-U.S. Presidents from 1776 to now done such a thing?

Yes, that is within the law, only thing that could stop them is like in Michigan we have term limits for Governor and if they were Governor and used up their term limits before becoming president they could not.

No one has done it yet - and there is no law against it. Some states may have a law against multiple terms so if the governor becomes president he cant return to his home state after serving as president but he can legally move to another state and run for governor.

Absolutely! God forbid that W would come back here to Texas to become governor again. I might have to move!!

But seriously, in Texas, there is no term limit on the governor's office so he could easily do this. I know in Virginia there is a term limit, and every state has their own legislation governing it. I'm not sure though if I know of anyone here in Texas or anywhere else in the U.S. that has actually done it.

It's an excellent question, and I'm sure someone will know the exact facts!

Yes as long as their state doesn't have term limits for being a governor.

'Jo Jo' has my full support about W.!!!!!

I would say that it I may find it a bit 'crass' for a former president to run for office again. Have a little class, I would say. Humbly take your place in history and get away from the political 'trough'!
