I'm 23 and today I got lost on a walk and ended up walking 2 miles or more. After about 1 and a half hours of walking my hips and knees started hurting. Now that I've relaxed and taken some pain meds my knees don't hurt but my hips are still in excruciating pain. Could this be the onset of arthritis since it DOES run in my family? I am moderately overweight for my height, but this is the first it's EVER been this bad. Then again it's been over 6 months since I've gone on that long of a walk. I dunno just curioous. Especially since I'm only 6 days from being 24 I'm kind of worried!!!

It may be the beginning of arthritis but dont worry. Maybe you just need to look at the factors that can worsen the problem and eliminate them. The extra weight put on your joints makes them work harder so loosing some weight may indeed save you pain from arthritis later in life. Also walking more frequently is good for you and helps keep your joints lubricated. Why not try walking for about half an hour three times a week and see if you are ok with that. It will also help with the weight loss. Check with your doctor first to make sure this is ok for your health and stop the walking if you experience the joint pain. Good luck.

Hi there, Tiff. It certainly could be arthritis, but that doesn't mean that you have to live with pain all your life. I have had both osteo and rheumatoid artiritis since I was a child. I no longer have it. The most important thing to know is that if you give your body all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that it needs, it can reverse or even elimiinate the arthritis. Take it from someone who has not had to use pain meds for over two years. If you would like to know how I got ridof it, send me an email at livingright2@hotmail.com.

Yes, its arthritis and the long walk has triggered it. But dont worry, you are still young and you have all the time in the world to make your life a little better than the older ones. You have to begin avoiding those fatty foods and beans which would deposit uric acid in your joints. Exercise regularly to make your bones stronger...strangely though, if you dont move those joints , it will get worse...so stay active and just do it right...dont push your body too far. Goodluck !!!

More than likely it is fatigue and muscle aches. You walked over 2 miles; that is enough to make your muscles tired and sore.
