Max power-walks around an oval while Hailey jogs. They start at the same time on the same spot and go in the same direction. They both keep up a constant speed for one hour. Max does 8 laps in the hour and Hailey does 24 laps in the hour.

Can you please show me your working out

a) How many times will Hailey pass Max?

b) How many times will Hailey pass max exactly on the spot where they started?

Thanks AppleChender

a) Hailey will get even with Max 3 times for each lap Max makes. [For Max 60min/8laps => 7.5 min/lap. For Hailey it's 60/24 or 2.5 min /lap. Hailey will get even with Max 24 times during their hour workout.]]

So Hailey will PASS Max 21+2 = 23 times during their hour workout. When they both finish at where they originally started Hailey does not pass Max; he catches up, gets side by side.

b) In a similar fashion Hailey will PASS Max only 7 times at the precise spot where they started.

Again keep in mind that when they both finish at where they originally started Hailey does not pass Max; he catches up, gets side by side. [We/I also do not consider Hailey to have passed Max when they both start out.]

I could be wrong, but I think:

Max= 8 laps in 1 hr
Hailey=24 laps in 1 hr
24 divided by 8 = 3
therefore Haily passed Max 3 times.

the second question doesnt make sense because it suggests they stopped at some point, but it never said when..

goodluck!
