I usually prepay and print postage online. Then I would go to post office and wait in line to have it stamped or stickered as "Fragile". I tried to ask the person earlier today if she can spare me a few of those sticker labels or if I could buy some from them. She suggested I can find and buy them at places like Staples or Office Depot. From there, it suddenly popped up in mind about why not use a marker and write it legibly myself after prepaying and printing a mailing label. I know people can write "Refuse(d)" on a package if they want to reject it, where it will then be returned back to the sender. Bottom line: just wondering if courier will be just as gentle with the package labelled "Fragile" by handwriting compared to by stamp or sticker.

You can mark it FRAGILE in handwriting. It's a great idea to write it on every side of the parcel.
If the item is fragile I do recommend that you spend the nominal fee and have it insured.
Did you know that the Postal Service has free carrier pickup? This way you don't have to go out to the post office or wait on line.
Check out the USPS website.
I have worked at both UPS and the Post Office, and believe me UPS has a heck of alot more damaged parcels percentagewise than the post office.
The percentage of parcels damaged in the post office is far less than 1%.

I doubt it will matter at all either but you would be CRAZY not to try it.

I seriously doubt that the postal workers are 'trained'' to say 'gotta ignore this one because what it says is handwritten'.

They just ignore them all!

talk to a manager at Circuit city or best buy. they have TONS of those pieces of 'ghost poop' -> those styrofoam peanuts, that they do not recycle. Ask them to save a bit of it for you...if that is not an option, get a nice crosscut shreader and use your old credit card bills (shreaded of course) for 'stuffing'.

I also make up a few post it notes that say (nothing liquid, fragile or potentially hazardous) on them and leave them on the packages when I jump the line to drop it off.
I put my first name on the note too along with my phone number in case there is a problem. Do this for a week and they will call you by name.

If you prepaid for your label, DOnt wait in line or you have not saved yourself any time at all.
Drop off your package and keep on truckin

I've heard packages marked fragile are the ones the post office drop kicks around and plays football with during their breaks...
