I switched to low dose birth control because my breasts were enlarge with the other brand i was taking. After being on the pill for a full month, my period was extremely light and only lasted a FEW HOURS!? A few days later I took a preg test and it was negative. A week and a half later I began to have a brown discharge for about 5-6 days. Now I have finished my second month of pills and it is the 5th day of inactive pills and I havn't started my period. Could I be pregnant? I did not miss any pills, but I heard that just switching to another pill can increase chances of pregnancy....I worried, because my insurance only covers 2 office visits a year, so I really don't want to waste one if I am just being paranoid.

i took 3 preg tests, all neg. doc says that my uterus probably barely has anything left on the lining and that is why i'mnot bleeding when i'm supposed to. I don't know if I believe her so i took the 3rd test, and still negative. I always take the pill within a 2 hour period (from 8am to 10am). The only time I was late taking the pill was when I had the flu and was vomiting most of the day, but at 4pm I was finally able to take it and went on with the normal schedule. I am just very nervous about my doctor and the tests being wrong...maybe i'm being rediculous.

No you aren't worrying for nothing. Sometimes lowering the dosage of estrogen...the active ingredient...does make the potential for pregnancy more real. However, if you were on the pills of a higher dosage right before you began these new ones, you should be OK...Do you have a Planned Parenthood in your town...or nearby town? THeir prices are very reasonable. Also, wait another few weeks and take an EPT or Clear BLue Easy and see what it says...Good luck!

Oh...and P.S. in the meantime, if you are sexually active, please use a condom to protect yourself!

Low dose birth control pills are good because they don't cause a lot of "side effects", but they can be ineffective if you don't take them at EXACTLY the same time each day. It sounds like you are "spotting" during the cycle when you should not be bleeding. This probably means that the pills are not working for you, and YOU ARE NOT PROTECTED! Whenever you switch pills, you should use an alternate method of BC in addition to the pills for at least a month, until you are sure that the pills are doing their job. You may very well be pregnant. You should go to the health department or Planned Parenthood if there is one in your area. Definitely take another pregnancy test, and (if you are not pregnant) if you insist on staying with these pills, be sure to take them at the exact same time every day, and use a backup until your cycle gets normal (you are not spotting...). If that doesn't work, I'd try another method of birth control. I use the Depoprovera shot, and it works for me...although many women have undesirable side effects like weight gain or mood swings (although not any worse than hormone pills).
Hope this helps...good luck!

before i answer further, let me tell u something...

if u r a girl who has irregular periods, taking in birth control pills that stop egg formation, may induce a lot of side effects like excessive weight, etc. Also, usage of such pills may adversely effect the generation of eggs once u stop taking them. in case you have taking the pills that stop egg formation, i recommend you to visit a good doctor and take her advice for pills for proper egg formation.

I hope I answered your question.
