The left yammers on ad nauseam about Fox News' supposed bias, but seem to have no problem whatsoever with the left leaning bias in other media outlets. The New York Times has been rocked by a series of scandals inolving its lack of journalistic ethics, including a story decrying the plight of a Salvadoran woman supposedly imprisoned for obtaining an abortion. When this turned out to be an utter falsehood (the baby was born alove and the young lady committed infanticide), the Times refused to clarify or retract.
NPR, though I listen to it daily, is no better. All media outlets are entitled to an editorial voice, but a public broadcaster should be held to a slightly higher standard of impartiality. I think their new slogan could be "Daniel Schorr: Hating America since the Hoover Administration".
My question is "Why the double standard from the left?". I guess biases only trouble you when they're not YOUR biases, huh?

I love NPR! and you are spot on re: ole Danny boy. You are also spot on the bias thing ... all parties guilty.
I thought it would raise more politically savvy children to get so many opposing and obviously biased views ... instead the kids tune it all out. System overload. Scary and Dangerous, don't you think?
But who goes first in the effort to clean it up? News always sells, but some sells faster than others. Time is money. Grap a headline, Grab a buck. Whose fault is that? More importantly, whose responsibility is it to see it improved? Can we, Joe Q Public, tame the beast we help to create?

Hey buddy The New York Times is owned by the same company that Fox News is. As for speaking about true bias in the media, how about that Bill O'Reily fruitcake. This guy goes from reporting celebrity rumors to reporting the news? Are you serious? How about Sean Hannity, who says he deals with facts. I guess that doesn't cover the fact that Iraq had no WMD.
The neo-con republican war machine is full of slant and bias. However, I will be fair and state, that the left wing libs are full of a lot of bias themselves, they don't even begin to touch what the repubs have done to this country during the last 6 years.
For the record, I am neither liberal or conservative.
And to clarify a point made by an earlier poster, fascism is most certainly not a liberal idea. Most fascist dictators in the entire worlds history have been members of their respected conservative parties.

Since 1980's when Reagan did away with media equality, ( every market had conservative and liberal media outlets by law) the media has been according to the right left leaning. although the rest of the country seems to have with fox leading the way shifted far right. So media is possibly sightly left but far right of where media was in 1980. Fox viewers and talk radio listeners endlessly reiterate this supposed bias. without understanding how easy they can be manipulated in their decision process, Others who read news from multiple outlets each day(many international) get a much more varied perspective from which to judge news. But still seem to be berated for being left. But it should be understood by all in a democracy that government works for government they proclaim what serves their goals. Rarely is this pure fact or even much more wishful thinking. without careful research and balance it will by its nature mislead.

The bias in the media can be traced to their advertisers, very few business people will bite the hand that feeds them, news programs need advertisnements to stay a float, news bireasus are expensive to maintian, and thus its the corperate world or madison ave's infulence we really need to take a long look at

People only point out the biases that don't suit them. That applies to both ends of the spectrum. There really is no solution other than awareness, and it really is no ones fault, it's a [sad] fact of life. All news is doomed to be skewed one way or another.

All news media is biased, however, the goverment should not be rewarding media based on their selective biases. That is the same as state owned media, that Bush has such a problem with in Venezuala, etc.
Did you know that the Bush administration rewards Fox news for it's "selective" coverage?

It's quite different for a few reporters in an organization to be biased than an entire "news" station to be biased....There are a few Liberals inside Fox, but they are really moderates...I've heard every one of them bash the Left in small ways so that they aren't overt about it.
Why should the Democrats treat Fox as if it is a real news agency.

If the person from the New York Times lied, then he should be reprimanded or fired. I'm sure you agree...
Clinton lied about his affair. He was censured.
So shouldn't a person, let's say for example, the current President, LIED about the war. What should happen with him?
