Maybe kids not being listened to by adults who are too rigid to them. Sometimes, kids have things to say, worth listening ones, because their point of view is different but maybe helpful.

Answerer #1 kind of answered one of the themes when she said she wasn't going to do it for you (homework).... Tom didn't want to paint the fence, so he got someone else to do his work for him.
