Do you have to have a router to use the Xbox 360 wireless adapter?

I want to connect to Xbox live but My parents dont want to purchase a router, or have a wire going through the entire house, if u have an answer to this please help me, I'll take any suggestions

If you live in a city that provides Free Wi-fi, then you can connect to the public access point. If you're city doesn't have free Wi-Fi, then you're going to have to get a wireless router. Like the guy said, if your parents won't buy one, what's stopping you from buying one? They're not exactly expensive. You can probably get a low end one for about 30 bucks and a decent one for about 50 bucks. Or if you really want to splurge, you can get a high end model for about 200 bucks.

Well, if you are gonna connect to Xbox live you hav to connect the Etrhernet cord through the whole house. Or u can buy a 100$ wireless adapter. No you dont have to have a router to connect.

Well I agree with the one guy that said that either you can use the wireless adapter to connect to an open wireless service that's in range (either citywide wifi or an open access point near you), or you're going to have to buy a router. Either way you're going to need to connect the wireless signal from your adapter to a broadband router of some sort. It just that you may be lucky enough to use someone else's.

In response to the guy that said you don't need a router, how would he connect his wireless adapter to the internet?

if your parents dont want a router AND they dont want a cord going through the house then i dont know what to tell you. my boyfriend has the wireless adapter and a router and plays xbox games online that way.
