I work for a no kill animal shelter. So many people come in and just "pick out" an animal. It might match the furniture or maybe it looks cute. People get upset when I ask them to come and visit the animal again or when I tell them they need more time with the animal. Why can't people spend time with the animal. Get to know the animal and then choose the one that is right for the family.

I agree with you. Most want to be seen and a cute animal will draw attention to them...Myself I prefer dogs. But I prefer a particular breed...Mutt...When I chose the dog I have I went to a place that had puppies. I never called them over I just squatted and the one that came to me and would not leave was the one I chose..He is a wonderful dog. Also being a mutt his genetic make up is strong. Pure breeds have too many problems which I found out breeding Maltese. Now I prefer a heinz 57. They are just as intelligent as a pure breed. Dogs are like kids they will do what you let them get away with. There are no stupid dogs just stupid lazy owners.

I agree; people and pets have personalities that should match. But there is such a thing as love at first sight, and I know I wouldn't want to chance someone else coming in and snagging a pet that I'd been visiting because I waited too long. :/

Cause people tend to follow their heart, or like a certain cat or dog because it reminds them of another one they had or they met somewhere.
You should learn more about each animal you have for adoption, good with kids, lots of energy, etc so that you can help them make a more informed decision.

People are shallow.
This is the same reason for which people end up marrying people for all the wrong reasons and thus the reason that the divorce rate is so deplorable.

maybe they are afraid someone else will take thier pet. i picked out both of mine because of thier personality.
