particles ... I would love to clean this out; however, the manufactuer, General Electric, in their infinite corporate wisdom does not seem to have made a way for a non-repairperson to do this ... or not? Does anybody know? There seem to be rivets holding this thing in place. I'm guessing I would need to get a GE repairman to come out but I really don't want to pay for that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Get a wet dry vac and suck it out.

attach a flexible hose to the kitchen sink with an adapter kit from Home depot, then put it on and turn on the water and blast the debris out of the mesh screen, then it can go out in the rinse. Advise whoever loads the dishwasher to rinse befor putting the dishes in. That will save you trouble.

I would use a shop vac or the attachments on your vacuum.

FYI ... dishwashers are only intended to sanitize dishes ... not remove all the grime.

Uh ohhh , someone used the dishwasher as a disposal !

I would take the vacuum and try and suck it out.

I like Valley's response and believe his method would work.
