According to an MSNBC article, researchers have made the claim the Bolitoglossa dofleini has the most instantaneous power of any muscle in any animal on earth.

But from the summary available on the Journal of Experimental Biology's website, it isn't clear whether the authors are claiming that B.dofleini as a species has the most muscle power, or B.dofleini is just a repreentative species for the Bolitoglossa genus, who have the most powerful muscles as a group.

This species sounds like a member of the Bolitaglossid family of salamanders. Bolitaglossid salamanders can actually project their tongues out of their mouths in the same fashion that a frog's tongue can shot forth, but not by the same mechanism. However, this ability sets the Bolitaglossa dofleini apart from other salamanders
