Well, despite the peta.org nag, I think you will see a great show. If you haven't been, you should go at least once. It is neat to do anything like that with other people you enjoy that you expect would enjoy it with you. Whenever possible, if I am interested in seeing something that kids especially would enjoy, I find some kids to take along.
A circus is something best enjoyed by laying back and enjoying the spectacle. I once paid extra for a photo pass that let me wander behind the scenes in a tent circus in my home town. What I saw was hard working people often performing in two or three acts with different names and costumes, especially on the women, that looked delicate and immodest from a distance and had a strong resemblance to cloth armor and fishnet up close (as it would, I realized for 2 shows a day, 5-7 days a week.)
Go.

It's not a real circus!!! I went there... it's like a FREAK show! But it's pretty awesome... there was this guy who had a MUSTACHE! And it had the most spectacular color... he said he grew it since he was a little itty bitty and it was the color ORANGE! Can you believe that?! It's well worth the 100 bucks, but I paid 1000 to keep seeing it. My friends and family didn't really think it was that great, but I thought it was just the best thing ever! Better than Disney, let me tell you that! I mean... come on, an ORANGE MUSTACHE? Where else can you find a man with an orange mustache? And you know what's really weird?? He said he didn't dye it. And I take his word up for the truth. Oh, and there's another great attraction... there were these two girls that were exactly alike! They looked exactly the same... I thought my eyes were playing me. But nooooooooo.... it was all true! How freaky can you get?? Oh my, oh my. The show has other great stuff, I'm sure, those are just the wonders I have saw! Loved it!!!

I've been to several of them.
If you can, go to the BIG one--the "three ring" circus. These are held at larger venues, and the feats are more impressive because of the extra room. The high wire is higher and longer, the trapeze artists swing further and higher, and there's more room for the wild animal acts. And with the "three rings", there's ALWAYS something going on. There's almost always at least two acts going on at once, with clowns doing their thing all around the periphery.
The single-ring circus is held in smaller venues, and isn't as impressive. The smaller space restricts the number of things going on at any one time, as well as the types of acts that can be performed. Because there's only one ring, things drag a bit between acts, as they get everything set up.
My small kids (under 10) still like the little one, but if you've got to entertain an older crowd, I wouldn't shell out the cash for anything less than the full spectacle.
*** EDIT ***
Actually, no matter which one you get a chance to see, go see it. It will p!ss off the PETA crowd, so there's a fine principle involved.
And because they're agitating to make circus animal performances illegal, this could be one of the last chances you'll get to see one.

in case you, your brother, and your fiance have not viewed a circus, that's certainly properly worth seeing, and being there in guy or woman. have you ever viewed an entire circus everywhere on television or video clips? it rather is plenty greater. they do no longer use as many stay wild animals that they used to, yet i'm useful they have plenty and elephants galore. i'm able to nonetheless remember the 1st one I observed like it occurred the former day. i replaced into certainly thoroughly awed. and that i will by no skill forget the 1st cotton candy I ever had. i think of it replaced into large, yet i replaced into nonetheless incredibly youthful.

I wouldn't give them the sweat off a monkeys b*lls. Do the animals a favour and do the next best thing, take them to the zoo! At least there you know them critters are being treated humane.

I've been to the circus a few times and frankly I find it deeply disturbing and will never bring my children to one. Well, firstly I admit clowns creep me out, but mostly it's that the animals are clearly unhappy and degraded, and I cannot morally support that. Too many "Good Animals Go Bad" where you see elephants get shot for being a 'danger to society', ironic considering society is a danger to elephants...eh, I just can't dig it.

We just went to one of there small events and it was pretty good. I used to go every year when I was little and I loved it in fact my dad whom hated anything with crowds would wait all year just to go cuz he enjoyed it as well. My husband whom would rather go to the rodeo enjoyed the smaller production and our kids where enthraled.
Hope you have a great time!

The fact is, animals do not naturally ride bicycles, stand on their heads, balance on balls, or jump through rings of fire. To force them to perform these confusing and physically uncomfortable tricks, trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks, and other painful tools of the trade.
Not only are elephants, bears, tigers, and other animals abused by trainers, they suffer from extreme loneliness, boredom, and frustration from being locked in tiny cages or chains month after month, city after city. Instead of being treated like furniture that is loaded and unloaded into trucks and storage areas, these animals should be in their natural habitat, exploring, seeking mates, and raising families.
Boycott the circus! Don't take your family! You will be supporting animal cruelty!
