I'm writing a thesis for an AP English 11 assignement and I just need one word to complete it... the problem is I don't know how to describe what I'm looking for. Here's my thesis:

"Despite arguments that religious indicium on federal property is unconstitutional and should be removed, phrases like “Under God” and “In God we Trust” are important and eternal American traditions and should remain a part of ___________________."

I'm trying to collectively refer to items that have religious references in them... like currency, the pledge of allegience, political swearing-in ceremonies, witness swearing-in ("so help me God") etc. What's the word I'm looking for?!

I'd change the sentence to read, "...phrases like "under God" and "In God We Trust" represent not only America's religious heritage, but a core belief of more than 80% of the American population."

Alternatively and more closely to what you want, "...phrases like "under God" and "In God We Trust" are important statements of a core American value and should remain part of our rituals and symbols."

seems to me that there are few words you have missed, but could be classified as a sentence:
U.S. Original Historic Essence
or might be the word:
IDENTITY.

TIP: Just find out how long has been the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" in the U.S. money coins and you will see what i means when i say identity.
