Not to long ago, my cousing got caught with weed, all they did was just give him probation, and well thats about it, the punishment isnt that harsh its mostly the violence that sorrounds marijuana like the drug deals that go wrong, or the people that smuggle the herb, and supports all of that terrorism, but i hope by 2010 they will decriminalize it or legalize it and tax it.

Its very possible. I don't advocate its use--but the reality is that marijuana is not all that dangerous--certainly not as risky as excess drinking.

Also--the "laws" are ridiculous--and almost totally ineffective--much like Prohibition was 80 years ago. It is currently the LARGEST cash crop in the United States.

Conclusion: people are using it widely--and will continue to do so. So why don't we legalize it and take all that money that's going to drug dealers and organized crime and collect it in taxes? Not to mention freeing up the DEA and other law enforcement to go after drugs that really are dangerous?

I think it may just become one of those laws that just doesn't get enforced. There are already places in the Northwest where the police don't even bother.

The sad joke is that the government is more likely to allow marijuana drug use than they are to allow industrial hemp use.
