There was only three the main civilizations those where the rest of the others came from:
the Rise Civilization, was born in what we knows as China, and in the top of its glory did extends from what it is or was U.R.S.S. to India; from Italy to Japan;
the Wheat Civilization, starts with the Sumerian civilization and did extends once before all the Europe area, middle orient and part of Africa;
and the Corn Civilization, was born in the continent that we knows now as America, but was called Anahuac once before, what means "land between two waters" in nahuatl language.
from those three civilizations came the most important cultures and empires of the human history:
the Ming Empire in China, with the wonderful cities of hong Kong and Pekin where this empire was flourished,
the Rome Empire, in Rome where this Empire was flourished, perhaps there was some others important empires from this Civilization this has been the most important regarding human life course in the whole world.
and the Olmec-Toltec Civilization which spreads with all the knowledge they did get to the latest great full Empires Aztec and Mayan, whose at the arrive of Europeans to this continent has developed Civilization and culture as big and may be bigger than those in the old world; example, the biggest city at that time was London with 80,000 persons; Tenochtitlan was, as Cortes did describes in his memories about 300,000 persons.
they did developed mathematic, medicine, and astronomy, so accurate was they in this science that they did predict exact alignment between sun, earth and milk way to take place in the date marked as Ahau 3 Kankin(13.0.0.0.0) which falls on dec 21st of 2012. more than 500 years ago!.

Cairo, Ancient Eygptians. Ramses, Cleopatra
Machu Picchu, Peru, Ancient Incan Civilization
Athens, Greece Ancient Greece, home of the Illiad, many philosophers and playwrites like Sopohocles and Euripides.
Pompeii, Italy, where the volcano Mount Vesuvius buried the town, frozen in place over 16000 years ago on 24 August 79 AD.
Bethlehem, Israel, five miles south of Jerusalem. The birth of Christianity.
I suppose some of these are not flourishing today, but they are the most prominent ancient civilizations. I will say that each of these places have hundreds if not thousands of visitors/tourists each year.
