I know what the no-smoking sign means. I want to know if there is a name for the circle with the line acrossed it.

It's called the "No Symbol", "Universal NO", or "Prohibition"

The ring is there but it really is a circle with a bar across it. The cigarette is under the ring and bar.It is to let people know that they can not smoke at the places where that sign appears. In many states it is the law. But the whole thing is a unit. You can put a circle and cross bar over any thing exsample the same for no swimming, It is a law
