We wake him every morning at 7:30 am. Then he's in daycare until 5 pm. We put him to bed around 10:30 pm. And he sleeps through the night. But sometimes he's very sleepy when he comes from daycare, so we want to give the daycare a schedule to follow, but we don't know what to suggest.

We have twin 6 month olds, and this is what works for us. We also wake them at 7:30, then put down for a nap at about 9:45. We wake them or they awaken around 11:30. Then down for a nap at about 1:45. We wake them or they awaken around 3:30. They go down for a short nap at around 5:30, sometimes they just rest and don't sleep. This is a recent development. They go down at 8:30 for the night. After each wake-up we feed them, then they play until nap or sleep. We also give them one additional nursing right before the 8:30 sleep. Hope this helps!

10:30 bedtime is really way to late for such a young baby, especially if you're waking him at 7:30. Babies typically need about 12 hours at night pluse 2-4 or more hours of naps during the day. I'd try putting him to bed at 7:30 or 8 at the latest. You might be interested in the book The No Cry Sleep Solution by Pantley. It has some great info on infant sleep.

Daycares have their own schedule but to make it easy.. try to get him to take a quick power nap for about 15-20 min. in the morning. Then let him take a longer one in the afternoon after lunch. He should sleep for a good 2-3 hours and might not be so tired after daycare. This what I do in my infant room at work.

Let him make his own schedule! For example, my son is almost 5 months and he's not on a set schedule, but things usually follow within the same hour everyday. I just put him to sleep when he rubs his eyes, feed him every four hours and I know he's had enough sleep when I go to his crib and he has a smile on his face. (Usually about 11 hours at night, he doesn't nap much during the day!)

A good schedule for a baby/child is to be with his mom. Take full responsibility for your child, don't put money over him!
