Simple question - do you think it's an appropriate term to use? Is there a more polite phrase one should use instead of "vagina"?

This is stemmed from an article I read about a group of girls who were reading from "The Vagina Monologues" as part of a play who were instructed not to use the word "vagina" in it - but did anyways, and suffered a suspension.

Just want to know everyone's opinion :)

Stop being cop-outs. It's either a dirty word or it's not.

...And the school was putting on the play "Vagina Monologues" it wasn't the girls' idea - they just tried out for the part, and were then told not to say the word "vagina" in it. That's the whole point.

It's not a dirty word, but it's in the eyes of the beholder, that considers it to be dirty.

The three girls are juniors (not 15) and honor students also, but how dare these young women use the correct biological, medical, name for a woman's reproductive part. Why should people be subject to such proper language? Couldn't they say "winky-bug" or "who-who". Don't they know that strong, educated, women, who don't use baby talk, are flaming, liberal, lesbians. I mean, next they will want to talk about their "breasts" and the dangers of "breast" cancer. It has to stop somewhere folks. Educated women, proper speech, plays about woman empowerment, teenagers wanting to express themselves, before too long, they will want me to call my "pee-bug" a penis. Well I refuse, and if I can't transcend the chains of stupidity, no woman should be allowed to either. Filthy liberals!!

It depends upon the judgement of the speaker and the listener and upon the context. No word is dirty or beautiful in itself.

A word is simply a combination of sounds (letters) and it stands for something.

A word is like a cup. You can use it to drink various things such as coffee, tea, juice etc. It depends upon the context and the users.

Its not a dirty word in any way, but I do wonder WHY these girls were performing that play. The subject matter is far too adult for children to perform.

These kids are 15 years old, right? what happened to kids being kids?
