try touch a different way, starting with the palm of the hand before the fingers, and the fingers before the finger tips, Let the finger tips be the last part of your hand to touch. Usually the palms are softer and warmer, the finger tips relatively hard and pokey, and sometimes colder than the palms.
If the finger tips are the first thing that makes contact, its less comforting, more startling, instinctively feels like claws or teeth, or a distressed emergency grab, instead of like an incidental warm contact of the parent's body cuddled up at ease, safe, secure and comfortable beside the baby. The way you touch can have long-term implications on the offspring's psychology and other well being. You should read a book called "Touch", or "Touching", by Ashley Montague

Young babies have a startle reflex. They can even startle themselves sometimes. It's normal and goes away as they continue to develop.
