PSAT are actually really good in predicting your SAT scores. I got a 222 on my PSAT, and what do ya know--I got a 2220 on the SAT!
The PSAT is very helpful because the score report is actually detailed, not like the SAT one. the score report tells you which questions you got wrong, which you got right, the type of question for the math section, and level of difficulty fromm E, M, and H. It also tells you what skills you've mastered and what you can improve on, so that come time for the SAT, you'll be much more prepared.
As far as preparing for the SAT, the only two books you really need are The Collegeboard's Official SAT Study Guide book, which has 8 practice tests all taken from past SATs, and Up Your Score, which has all the tips you'll ever need from perfect scorers.
To improve your vocab, read lots of books which are considered literary masterpieces, and if you ever encounter a word whose meaning you don't know, look it up in the dictionary and write it down if you need to.
Good luck!

First of all, it's worth taking PSAT. It helped me actually. Of course you learn something because after PSAT you get your test back with all the answers. Then, if you want to prepare for SAT, I'll tell you honestly that those people who get the hightest scores go to prep classes and study with SAT prep books. I'm done with all my SATs. My friend gave me a prep book and it actually helped. I would love to give it to you, but I don't know where you live. So, if you really want to score well, take classes or just buy the prep books which are not very cheap by the way. Good luck. Yes, and take PSAT don't listen to anybody it is definitely going to help you, you will do better after taking it, believe me.

collegeboard.com this site pretty much has everything you need to know, including an actual SAT test that you can practice on and get graded.

I just took the SATs on Sat for the first time and it was no big deal, hopefully I got a good score.

Good luck

PSATs are just a mini form of the SATs and you get a lot of letters from colleges after you take it.
