Note that I never really played pokemon except a big chunk of the gold version. I wonder if this continues a storyline, leaving me confused. If this something that any non-pokemon-crazed-person could pick up and play? Why is this so much cheaper than the ruby version?

You can find Fire Red at $20 anywhere, its the retail price for it now. It's a great game, one of the best the Pokemon game series has produced in my opinion. It's a remake of the orginal red version (which takes place a few years before gold and silver). Theres a lot of new additions such as the sevii islands and new missions, and you can rebattle the elite 4.

get the fire red after you played ruby but fire red is more and longer than ruby. but some stores sell differnt prices for there games.
