my 4 month olf baby fell sick on the weekend and threw up 5 times because i fed him rice cereal for the first time and it didnt suit him. he became so fragile and went limp. i gave him pedialyte. he was better since morning but threw up in the evening one time.
i feel so heart broken looking at him as he has lost considerable amount of weight and his face looks smaller.
i was wondering if he does not throw up again, how soon will he regain his health?
thanks for your response

Im not concern with the weight.Do you have a medical license? If not then you can only guess it was the cereal that made him ill.He needs to go to the doctor.A limp baby is never acceptible.I would be scared sh@tless to sleep with one of my kids being that sick.Get him medical attention.

If he keeps vomiting you might want to seek help from your pediatrician. Best to be sure baby isn't dehydrating!!! That will cause you so much more grief. I just has a cousin's baby end up in the hospital for 3 days because of the same thing. Only give sips of water or Pedialyte. Taking in too much at one time will help promote vomiting. Watch his temp too.
If he doesn't vomit any more, I'd say you will probably see a change for the better in a day or two. His body may be getting healthy but will take that amount of time to regain his strength again.
It is so heart wrenching to watch our little ones when they are sick. You feel so helpless. But he knows that you are there for him and he feels your loving touch and that helps! Good luck. Just keep giving him lots of hugs and smoochies.

I gave my baby rice for the first time around 5 and half months, she ate about 3 tablespoons and 4 hours later threw it all up and did the same thing!!I called an ambulance because she turned blue from throwing up so much and was sweating and was also limp!!They did some tests on her,she was not allergic but they said they very often the first few times you give your baby cereal not to give them too much because their body's are not ready for that much that soon.Good luck to you,I would make an appt. to see your doctor and get him weighed to see how much weight he has lost since your last visit.Don't worry,I am sure he will eat it again, maybe just wait a few weeks and try a little less.Good luck!

i too think a trip to the ER is in order he could be masively dehydrated after all that. i would take him just to make sure. the least they will do is give him some fluids to get him perking up again. then after that take him to the peds. doctor to have a sick baby check up. just in case. but as a mother of 2 i would most diffently be getting in the car right now and taking him to the ER. he should have been there yesterday after throwing up the 3rd time.

I doubt it was from the rice cereal, its as bland as bread. He probably got a case of the flu bug thats been running around lately. He should be back to new in a couple of days. Id take him to the ER though, if hes lost a decent amount of weight.

You should contact your pediatrician if your child is currently seeing one. If not, I would advise you to take your child to the ER or the closest Urgent Care facility. Be sure to tell them all the details that you can about your baby's condition and how you have been using to treat him at home.
If it were me, I would have contacted a doctor as soon as my child went limp.

You need to take this child to the ER if he seems to have lost this much weight. A young baby shouldn't be doing any of this to this extreme. he's probably severely dehydrated and needs doctor care now.

probably just a couple days and he'll be fine. might want to call the dr. to check weight.
please don't give baby solids yet. babies go through a lot of growth spurts- more milk is what they need- not food.
take care!

If he is really doing as bad as you say, you need to take him to the E.R.
Babies become dehydrated very fast and it in turn causes more vomiting.
Babies intestines aren't mature until 6months!
